With the holidays just around the corner, and Covid restrictions getting longer in the rearview, companies, employees, friends and family are all excited to gather and celebrate this year. Some in fact have been planning and anticipating this moment since earlier this year, and as event planners, we have seen a surge in interest to host in-person holiday events. And while we are certainly happy to help and be a part of these special moments, we are like many, already burnt out on Roaring 20’s themes. So we decided to help nip this rinse/repeat cycle in the bud, and spur some creative juices to flow in your next planning meeting with some updated and unique holiday party concepts.
Get inspired with our Top 10 Holiday Party Themes for 2022.
Around-The-World Party
Also known as A 12 Tastes of Christmas party, this food odyssey provides guests with tastes from around the world. There are so many directions that can be taken with this concept, in terms of food, decor, attire, entertainment, etc., that this is probably the most universal concept, and since it focuses a bit more on the food experience of a party is a bit more suited to the formal, sit down style event.
Winter Palace Party
We might spend much of Winter trying to get out of the cold, but there is also plenty of design inspiration to embrace here too. Think ice sculptures and snow-themed décor as the go-to’s for this party theme. Food and drink include fresh blinis, caviar, and Stoli martinis. For attire and dress recommendations, look to Dr. Zhivago for outfit inspiration.
Magic Under the Moonlight
A bit more of the classic and classy event, this concept is all about a calm starry night. Dark tones, blues, golds, and twinkling lights are the decor go-to’s here, plus elegant attire and a swanky jazz band complete the vibe. Add in a dramatic aurora borealis light display midway throughout the evening for a wonderful and unexpected element that is sure to be a hit.
Winter Forest
We love this concept for so many reasons and have seen this trending across a variety of event types we have produced throughout the year. This theme is all about nature, with dark forest greens, snowfall, and winter woods-inspired decor. Add in eco-conscious and sustainable elements such as recycled wood or glassware, and natural foliage such as pine centerpieces, pine cones, branches, and bark can all be used in creative ways to bring the sights and smells of the forest indoors for a wonderful natural concept.
Flannels & Flapjacks
Where the Winter Forest concept is a bit more formal and elegant, the Flannel & Flapjacks concept is more casual and low-key. The dress code is more comfortable with flannels, jeans, and sweaters. Food is more approachable and can be eaten while standing. Add in a Jack Daniels drink station and maple syrup-inspired dessert bar to make this a true lumberjack-style cocktail party for your next company holiday event.
Fireside Roasting and Toasting Party
Where flannels and flapjacks get a little too casual, we add back in some nice elegant components for the sophisticated, yet casual event or crowd. Think of a cozy cabin with a large fireplace, big warm blankets, hot chocolate, big comfy leather sofas, and soft mellow music. Make the fireside experience the focal point of the event and engage people to gather and chat with a DIY s’mores bar for dessert.
Naughty or Nice Party
For the adults-only cocktail party that is a bit more fun, festive, and shall we say….lively! The dress code is either a naughty or nice character, and the vibe here is all about having a good time. Spiked apple cider cocktails, eggnog old fashioned, plus plenty of champagne and fireball whisky at this party. Make sure to add in a live band and a large dance floor for this event, because the spirits and energy will be high ‘til the end of the night.
Moulin Rouge
Keep the energy and adults-only concepts going with a fun Moulin Rouge-inspired holiday party. Lots of red and gold, lots of lace and high heels, and a whole lot of fun are in store for this classic concept. The dress code is dapper, the entertainment is a raucous burlesque, and the vibe is total hair-down dancing and drinking fun.
Grinch-mas Party
Bring Dr. Seuss’ world of Whoville to life with this Christmas party idea that will keep people giggling all night. Guests can dress as the Christmas-hating character or their favorite Whoville resident, then cheer & hoot when the Grinch of Honor makes his grand appearance.
Merry Vintage Christmas Party
Vintage-themed parties are always a hit, and Christmas is a perfect time to play off of people’s childhood memories of the holidays by choosing an era-specific period from which to draw inspiration. Not so far back like the 1920s, but more appropriate perhaps to your core staff, such as maybe the 1960s, or the 1980s. This retro throwback is a part Goodwill – part Sears catalog-inspired trip down memory lane, that will keep people engaged all night long.
Nightmare Before Christmas
Think black, white, and purple decor, with big moons, and jack-o-lanterns. This slightly edgy theme is a fun twist on the classic Tim Burton movie, which mixes a bit of a goth vibe with a playful animated fantasy feel, to add an eerie feel to the tired old holiday party.
