If you’re wondering who Saint Galentine is, the simple and somewhat comedic response is that she doesn’t exist – but if she did it would be Leslie Knope from the TV show Parks and Recreation. In 2010 during Parks and Rec’s second season, the episode “Galentine’s Day” introduced us all to the sweet notion of bringing our girlfriends into the fold of the Valentine’s day festivities by celebrating our appreciation for them by hosting a brunch of waffles and love.
Looking to join the millions of ladies out there carrying on this new tradition? Here is everything you need to know to make your Galentine’s Day special for you and yours.
Three tried and true tricks for any great Galentine’s Day:
-
- Get your girlfriends together for an activity you can share
- Exchange small gifts, cards, or trinkets
- Get silly with the attire. If Mean Girls taught us anything it’s that we all need to wear pink on Wednesdays! Why? Because us ladies love a good theme or reason to dress a certain way. Anything from matching flower crowns, to little red dresses and big hats. Get playful with it! Your squad will appreciate the excuse.
Looking for some activity ideas that might be fun to bring to the group? Take a look at a few of our favorites:
Host a Galentine’s Day Brunch
A lady’s favorite meal of the day is Brunch, and one that you simply can’t go wrong with. Those who have Valentine’s Day plans with their significant others for the evening can easily do both, and who doesn’t love being able to indulge in rich tasty food with a side of bubbles! Not sure where to go, try one of our local favorites SOUTH restaurant.
Go to a Cha-Cha Dance Class
Pull out your favorite set of high heels and slit skirt. It’s time to dance! Taking a dance class together can be a real treat. Chances are some of your squad might be a little rhythmically challenged but they will still have fun because they are with friends. Gotta love no judgment! Like this idea and looking for a fun invitation? Create your own and play off of Anchorman’s line “I like-a to do-a the cha-cha”. Want to check out classes, HERE is a good place to start.
Host a Fondue Night
Sweet or savory, you can’t lose. Either way, ladies love fondue! Not only is it tasty, something about it feels special because it’s so indulgent. Stop by one of our favorite local businesses Fromagio’ Artisan Cheese store. Want to get silly with it? Cut your dippable items into heart shapes, because …. Why not! Looking for a healthy alternative? Be the green goddess you are and cut veggies to dip into green goddess dressing with cheese mixture.
Take a Group Floral Arranging Class
The great thing about this activity is that not only are you all getting together to learn something new, but everyone gets to go home with flowers reminding them that whether single or married, they are loved and have amazing friends. One of our favorite places to take classes like these is Alaska Wholesale Flower Market.
Plan a Ladies Only Mini Break
For the squad that loves to travel together, a minibreak from it all may be just the ticket. Leave your stress behind, enjoy the outdoors or the excitement of a busy city, either way you’ll have your ladies with you to make the experience memorable.
